Conquer The Canyon®
Come Hike The Grand Canyon in 2010 with the
Angelman Syndrome Foundation®

Each year millions of people from around the world travel to Arizona to see the crown jewel of the American landscape - The Grand Canyon. Though seeing is believing, you can do much more than look! You can experience it on a personal level, up close, one step at time! At the same time, you will bring help and hope into the lives of thousands of lives of the people whose lives are affected by Angelman Syndrome.

September 23 - 26, 2010, Team ASF will be traveling to Grand Canyon National Park – one of the greatest natural wonders of the world - for an exciting and challenging hiking adventure.

The Bright Angel Hike participants will have the opportunity to experience the magnificent beauty of the Grand Canyon. From the rolling hills of the rim to the steep descents into the Canyon of up to 3,000 feet, participants will hike the trails led by The Walking Connection's best expert guides who will interpret the intricacies of the geology, history, flora, fauna and environmental zones of the canyon.

If YOU are willing to train and prepare yourself for an exciting adventure then you have come to the right place. By yourself, with a few friends, a corporate team or a hiking club, you can support the Angelman Syndrome Foundation (ASF) families and their mission while positively changing your own life.

Conquer The Canyon provides a special training program to help prepare you to meet the personal challenges of one of several levels of hikes at Grand Canyon - from the easiest walks along a paved path to the most difficult trails into and out of the Grand Canyon. There is a walk or hike to suit everyone. Walking Connection professional Grand Canyon Guides will lead small groups of just 6 - 13 hikers. This hotel based adventure provides a "Grand Adventure" while hiking the canyon, plus all the comforts you desire as you relax and celebrate your accomplishments in the canyon's accommodations.

The training program will help you gain confidence while increasing your fitness level and endurance! The mission celebration adventure at Grand Canyon is just that - a celebration of all your accomplishments in support of ASF.

What is the Angelman Syndrome Foundation?

The Angelman Syndrome Foundation is a national 501(c)(3) organization of families, caregivers and medical professionals who care about those with Angelman Syndrome. Our mission is to advance the awareness and treatment of Angelman Syndrome through education and information, research, and support for individuals with Angelman Syndrome, their families, and other concerned parties.

For more than 20 years, the ASF has been a leading resource for AS information, support and AS research funding. Education and information from ASF is available through numerous materials and resources including: a newsletter, web site, biennial conference, annual scientific symposia, phone support, local contacts, professional references, mentorship program and the newly launched Angelman Treatment & Research Institute (ATRI). These resources cover current research being conducted, therapies for patients and long-term care and financial planning issues. Since 1996 the ASF has funded 59 research grants totaling over $3.6 million. The ASF has awarded a majority of these funds ($3.3 million) beginning in 2005. Most aggressive funding of research is aimed at finding therapies and treatments for curing certain AS symptoms.
