Conquer The Canyon

Each year millions of people travel to Arizona to see the crown jewel of the American landscape - The Grand Canyon, and though seeing is believing, you can do much more than look! You can experience it on a personal level, up close, one step at at time! At the same time, you will bring help and hope into the lives of thousands of homeless people and families in Contra Costa County.

SHELTER Inc. FamiliesSHELTER, Inc. of Contra Costa County and Conquer The Canyon have joined forces to bring you Hike For SHELTER - a 3-night/4-day hiking adventure that will provide you a lifetime of stories to share with your friends and family.

In May of 2010, the Hike For SHELTER Team led by Karen Leffler and Pam Appel will be traveling to Grand Canyon National Park – one of the seven natural wonders of the world - for an exciting and challenging hiking adventure.

Hike For SHELTER participants will have the opportunity to experience the magnificent beauty of the Grand Canyon. From the rolling hills of the rim to the steep descents into the Canyon of up to 3,000 feet, participants will hike the trails led by The Walking Connection's best expert guides who will interpret the intricacies of the geology, history, flora, fauna and environmental zones of the canyon.

If YOU are willing to train and prepare yourself for an exciting adventure then you have come to the right place. By yourself, with a few friends, a corporate team or a hiking club, you can support SHELTER, Inc. of Contra Costa County and their mission while positively changing your own life.

The Conquer The Canyon training program is specifically designed by The Walking Connection to help prepare you to meet the personal challenges of one of several levels of hikes at Grand Canyon - from the easiest walks along a paved path to the most difficult trails into and out of Grand Canyon. There is a walk or hike to suit everyone. Walking Connection professional Grand Canyon Guides will lead small groups of just 6 - 13 hikers. This hotel based adventure provides a "Grand Adventure" while hiking the canyon, and the ultimate comfort as you relax and celebrate your accomplishments in comfortable accommodations.

Our training program will help you lose weight, gain confidence, increase your fitness level and endurance! Look at the smiles on the pictures to the right! We have seen nearly 4000 of these through 2009 we hope to see yours in 2010!
