Conquer The Canyon

Conquer The Canyon®
The Original and Unsurpassed Fundraising Hike Program

Programming

The South Rim of The Grand Canyon is the backdrop for one the newest and most successful "outdoor participatory team-training" adventures ever created specifically for use as a fundraising program, "Conquer The Canyon" is the perfect fit for a few specially selected non-profit organizations.

The Grand Canyon is the crown jewel of the American landscape and is one of the world's most sought after adventure vacation destinations. The Walking Connection has created an innovative and exciting high profile adventure that will attract and reward key fund raisers to your organization, year after year.

Why it works...

Conquer The Canyon works because it appeals to a broad spectrum of walkers and hikers. The program can accommodate participants of all levels of physical abilities and interests. Unlike marathons or 1/2 marathon programs that usually have one or two courses, we utilize more that 6 trails in and around Grand Canyon; from easy trails that are literally wheel chair accessible to the most difficult trails into and out of Grand Canyon.

Secondly, we assist you in preparing your participants with a 12 - 16 week online preparedness (training) program. At your option you can suppliment the online program with ongoing training hikes in the areas where your participants live by utilizing a local personal trainer, usually a volunteer. Additionally, many of your fundraisers will build camaraderie and work closely with each other to accomplish their fundraising and training goals. So, whether by telephone and e-mail or personal contact at ongoing training hikes (or a combination of all three), this program provides for your fundraising support staff to stay in touch with your participants on a weekly basis to help them reach their fundraising (and training) goals.

Finally, their reward! Once they have reached their fundraising goal, they know that they will be going to THE GRAND CANYON for a 3-Day Celebration Hiking Adventure with each other. This is not just some walk around the block or in a local park...it is The Grand Canyon. Depending upon your group size, your participants may meet other hikers from around the region, the country, or even from other countries. All at the Canyon for one reason...to celebrate the accomplishment of having met their personal goals while supporting an important mission.

How it works...

In support of your mission, we partner with you every step of the way to integrate our comprehensive program into a high energy campaign that is an effective fundraising tool for you. Walking and hiking enthusiasts make up one of largest and fastest growing market segments in America today. Conquer The Canyon taps this market by providing a fun adventure to America's greatest destination. Participants are recruited by you on a local or regional level. The program requires as few as 12 hikers and can accommodate as many as 220 in one weekend adventure. Regardless of the number of people you bring, each hiking group consists of a maximum of 12 hikers and 2 guides, to ensure the hikers a genuine "wilderness" experience at the Canyon.

First, we provide you with an overall demographic make up of the audience that should be recruited. This is based upon more than 18 years of our company's experience in working with hikers and walkers, and is supported by independent studies and the thousands of hikers who have completed our program. We have sample recuitment print brochures, web pages, press releases for your use and we will meet with you and train you about how to recruit, retain and prepare your participants to complete their's and your mission.

Client Retention...

Ongoing client (participant) contact is key to retention during the 3-4 month safety, skills and physical preparedness training program! For the Walking Connection's part, we continually engage the participant hikers with information about hiking, training, stories and images from past experiences, and most importantly, what to expect as they move through the program. As we get nearer to the Grand Canyon Adventure, we provide very comprehensive information about the trip as well as a rigorous online questioneer. We help each hiker to select the trail that is best suited for their interests and abilties.

Your Organization's Reward...

  • A high profile campaign that has a unique appeal for print and electronic media that will increase awarness of you and your mission.
  • Programming that keeps you in constant contact with your fund raisers over a 3-4 month period, during the entire program.
  • A longterm program that has a high participant repeat factor and can provide you a reliable source of funding for many years to come. You can start with a smaller group, (as few as 12 people) and grow the program based upon your success and market demand. We can handle up to 1200 - 1500 people in a single Spring or Fall Season.
  • Working with a reliable and professional Arizona based company, The Walking Connection. We have more than 18 years of experience in conducting special adventures at The Grand Canyon and in more than 30 countries around the world. Our comprehensive safety and risk management programs are the best in Grand Canyon National Park, and we are fully permitted and insured.

In FY 08/09 The Walking Connection will provide our comprehensive programming and will lead several thousand hikers in Arizona and at The Grand Canyon.

Hiking Grand Canyon is rarer than you think...and more fun than you ever imagined!

Less than 1% of people who visit the Grand Canyon ever set foot on a trail. Only a very small percentage of those ever do so with a professionally trained and certified guide - who can truly put them in touch with nature and provide a close encounter with one of the world's greatest natural wonders - The Grand Canyon. Our program utilizes up to 6 different trails of varying degrees of difficulty to meet the interests and abilities of all levels of hikers and/or walkers to include the broadest market segment possible.
